Julio Cesar de Figueiredo started his music life at a very early age under Waldomiro Pascoli, which introduced music theory and violin practices when he was only seven years of age. At the age of nine he studied the double bass, and from there began to perform with professional musical organizations and traveling groups throughout Brazil. In 1966 he initiated his piano studies and took classes from many teachers in Rio de Janeiro. Mr. Figueiredo graduated in conducting and composition in 1972 from the “Instituto Villa-Lobos” (Villa-Lobos College of Music in Rio de Janeiro). In 1995, Mr. Figueiredo obtained his graduate degree in piano performance at “Faculdade Mozarteum de São Paulo” (Mozarteum College of Music). Throughout his musical career, Mr. Figueiredo has been engaged in several musical projects, which includes composing and arranging for a diverse musical idioms, studio recording, and producing musical albums with renown Brazilian artists: Dick Farney, Dori Caymmi, Nana Caymmi, Claudette Soares and Roberto Menescal Band. Mr. Figueiredo also studied composition and conducting privately with world-renowned composer M. Camargo Guarnieri. Additionally, Mr. Figueiredo writes sound tracks for radio and television commercials, and since the mid nineties has taken additional academic undertakings including teaching music theory courses, chamber music, counterpoint and arranging techniques at “Universidade Livre de Música Tom Jobim”, as well teaching jazz harmony, arranging techniques and music & multimedia at “Cantareira College” in the City of São Paulo, Brazil. Mr. Figueiredo arrangements for symphonic band and wind symphony ensembles are frequently performed in the USA. Moreover, his string orchestra, woodwind duets, guitar trios, and songs for voice and piano are often requested by all major musical organizations in Brazil. Since 1997, Mr. Figueiredo is main musical arranger for the “City São Paulo Symphonic Band”. Mr. Figueiredo frequently receives invitations for master classes and workshops. He has given a workshop and lecture in Brazilian Bossa-Nova techniques at Florida State University (Tallahassee) in 1995, and most recently during the Brazilian Music Institute at the University of Florida’s (Gainesville) in 2001, 2005 and 2007. His most current achievements include arrangements for the UF Chamber Players (24 piece woodwind, percussion, and brass ensemble), performed at Claudio Santoro Theater during the traditional musical festival “Festival de Inverno de Campos do Jordão) and at the Conservatório Dramático e Musical de Tatuí (Dr. Carlos de Campos) in July 2011. Currently Mr. Figueiredo writes arrangements for the Brazilian drummer and artist Lilian Carmona and Band. Mr. Figueiredo wrote arrangements for the concert “Os Saltimbancos”, “São Paulo Concert Band” and “The São Paulo city Children Choir” 2014. In 2015 Mr. Figueiredo wrote arrangements for the concert “A Arca de Noé”, ( Noah's ark ) “São Paulo Concert Band” and “The São Paulo city Children Choir”. Arrangements for “Suite Retratos” by Radamès Gnattali was performed at MASP - São Paulo by the Flute Soloist: Gabriela Machado and São Paulo Concert Band - May, 2016. In September, 2022 Mr. Figueiredo wrote the soundtrack, compositions and transcriptions for the concert "O Museu das Sete Torres" (The Seven Towers Museum), "São Paulo Young Concert Band" directed by Monica Giardini and scenic direction by Carla Candiotto.
